My old teacher … My old teacher allways said, that the music came before the theory. So most important thing in music is to listen. If it feels right, play it.
So it is wrong to say that you cannot play that note.
Listen!! theory is built on music, not the other way around.
The seventh chords … The seventh chords formula is: 1 – 3 – 5 – b7 and refers to the degree of the chord. There are 4 notes on the chord, one major interval [1 - 3] and two minors [3 - 5 & 5 - b7]. Scales you can play on this chord are: Lydian Dominant, Diminished, Super Locrian, Whole tone, Hindu, Mixolydian [without emphasize the 11], Blues, Major Pentatonic, Major Pentatonic 2nd Mode, Minor Harmonic 4th Mode, Blues starting a 5th interval up, Blues starting a 3rd interval down, Major Harmonic 3rd Mode
The fifth is the … The fifth is the weakest sound in that chord, it adds no texture to the chord.. the root tells you which chord it is, the third tells you if it’s major or minor, and the seventh tells you it’s a seventh chord. The fifth does nothing, just reiterates what chord it is.
