Finding meaning in your work is the key to any long term success.
The examples are endless.
Look at any successful musician. They exercised extremely discipline and learned to say “no” to many things in order to become the best in the world at what they are most passionate about.
Successful entrepreneurs are another great example. You’ll likely find that they are working longer and harder than most people. What’s their motivation? They clearly don’t need the money, but are in it purely because the want to maximize themselves to be able to provide the most value to the most people.
You see, the irony is that people who are purley in business “to make money” end up making much less than the people who are in it because it is their passion and love to serve.
Well, while motivation to make money is short lived, purpose has no end.
People who are operating out of a position of purpose are far more likely to add true value to others lives and to the marketplace, enabling them to achieve greater success.
If you’re on this blog, you’re likely a musician with your feet in music as a business and even if you’re not yet making a full-time income, you are likely doing what you do out of passion and purpose.
Unfortunately, although this passion and purpose can never be completely extinguished, musicians who experience struggles in making a living from their music and find themselves being constantly undervalued, can find it difficult to keep their purpose ignited
If you don’t have a clear business strategy in place and a system to consistently find clients who value your work, then these negative experience can too easily make musicians forget their value and there reason they do what they do!
So today I want to take a moment to remind why your music really does matter
Maybe you love music and expressing through your instrument, maybe you love sharing your art with others and the incredible joy it brings them, and maybe at the end of it all you’d just love to find a way to make honing your craft something you make a living from.
Whatever it is, one of the most beautiful things about music is the power it has to create connection.
Connection is an essential part of what makes us healthy humans who can make the world a better place…. And music - is a perfect illustration of this! Different voices communicating together in harmony. You see, this is why music has this incredible ability to bring people together and change the feeling of an entire atmosphere. There’s power in that!
Sadly, despite living in a world that is more connected than ever through technology, people are more and more disconnected.
I’ve seen this in my own life as music has been the force that has kept me connected to so many great friends.
So my question for you, why do you do what you do? What keeps you motivated through good times and the bad times.
Start by asking yourself “why” and see where it gets you! You’ll be surprised the amount of motivation you’ll have to make a real difference in the world we live.
To your success,
